Vintage 1978 Gibson ES 335TD, Sunburst, Coil Tap, Great player!

This 1978 Gibson ES 335TD was recently acquired from a collection we purchased along with some other choice guitars. These photos are of the actual guitar you will receive, please review them carefully and contact us with any questions. Overall this 1978 Gibson ES 335TD  is in very good to excellent condition for a 40/yr old guitar. There are signs of finish checking on the body, but they do not translate well in the photos. This guitar was tested, inspected and set-up (with 10’s) by our luthier and will arrive at your doorstep ready to play.

From what we know this guitar was played early on and put away for the last 10’yrs or so. It has all the normal signs of wear with some surface scratches here and there, but no major dings, dents or gouges to call out. Everything about this guitar functions as it should and it’s begging to be played some more. This would make a great candidate for a players grade vintage guitar.

At some point during the guitars career there was a fret job done. So upon inspection we had the frets professionally dressed so they are an even height and shape all the way up and down the fretboard. The action was set-up low and she’s now a smooth playing machine. There is some finish wear from playing on the back of the neck at the lower frets, but it’s evenly worn and does not affect playability. The neck is a slim-tapered 3 piece maple with black side dots and pearl block inlays. It has a black headstock overlay with the pearl Gibson logo and crown. The guitar has the original Gibson tuners with tulip buttons and they work as they should. A 1-9/16” nut width, 24 3/4" scale length. The neck is straight and the truss rod is fully functional. The intonation is spot on and the guitar plays beautifully up and down the length of the neck.

The body is double bound and has that aged cream colored look to it. It’s a semi-hollow all maple body in a vintage sunburst with dual f-holes and includes a 5-ply black pickguard with black pickup bezels. A Tune-O-Matic bridge and a chrome trapeze tailpiece completes the look. One thing you might notice out of the ordinary is an extra toggle switch. This was a stock item and functions as a coil tap, very cool!
